The starting point is that you are responsible for your own safety in case of thunderstorms during your round of golf.
Although De Peelse Golf keeps an eye on the weather, it is not always possible to predict rapid weather changes. We therefore ask you to remain vigilant, especially in the event of a thunderstorm.
Shelters have been placed in the course where you can take shelter in case of an (approaching) thunderstorm. Locations: end of hole 4 / start of hole 5, end of hole 6 / start of hole 7 and hole 16 after the 2nd bridge before the bunkers to the right / hole 17 right before the water. The shelters are also shown on the scorecard with a red parasol.
Recommendations on how to act during a thunderstorm.
In case of an (approaching) thunderstorm or other extreme weather, the reception desk, Marshal or tournament management may interrupt or cancel a tournament by a loud honking. If necessary, someone can drive around to warn participants. Return to the clubhouse as soon as possible, or to the nearest shelter. Follow the weather forecast and current information about thunderstorms on your mobile.
Estimate distance to thunderstorm.
You can use the 10-second rule to estimate whether you are in danger. If the time elapsing between a lightning flash and the subsequent thunder is less than 10 seconds, the thunderstorm is dangerously close (around 3 km).
Leave your golf bag at least 30 metres away, so do not take it into the shelter!!! Golf clubs act when conductors/lightning attractors.
Do not raise an umbrella and leave it with your golf bag as well.
Avoid single trees and the edge of the forest.
Stay away from metal fences and water features.
What to do in case of an emergency?
Call 112 first and then inform the marshal +31 (0)6 1254 3996 or restaurant +31 (0)77 467 8032. Report who and where you are and what help you need from (put these phone numbers in your phone).
Horn signals in thunderstorms:
One long signal: there is acute danger due to thunderstorms.
Everyone should leave the course as soon as possible and seek shelter. No more hitting is allowed. The ball may be marked and recorded. The bag is left at a generous distance from the shelter.
Two short signals: the storm danger is over, play may resume.
The committee may interrupt the tournament when darkness falls or weather conditions deteriorate, such as fog, heavy rain, storm or snow.
This is indicated by three short sir en signals: The tournament will not be continued (today). Players may finish the hole and go to the clubhouse for further instruction. Weather conditions, other than thunderstorms, are not a legitimate reason for players to abandon the tournament on their own initiative.
